After last night’s victory, Lee now has 18 knockouts under his belt. This is also Lee’s third victory in 2020, following his wins against Miguel Zamudio in January and against Camilo Prieto in March. With a total of 20 wins on his record, Lee’s undeniable streak proves that such a remarkable achievement is only the beginning for this promising 21-year-old boxer.

Williams, who had spent the past year recovering and preparing for his next big fight, has a long, prestigious 7-year boxing career but was simply no match for the undefeatable Lee. Following two knockdowns, Williams didn’t last when Lee finally landed a third punch, ending the fight with an effortless knockout.

After the fight, Lee posted on his Twitter account, celebrating his win: “FIRST ROUND KO! 20-0 BABY!” He also mentioned that 2020 is not over for him just yet, “My manager said that I’ll be back in December.
We’re back with another spotlight episode and today we’re joined by a 5’7 Chinese-American pro athlete named Nelson Chan, who plays basketball for the Macau Black Bears. What makes his story unique is the fact that before he made it to the pros, Nelson was just an average basketball player throughout high school and didn't even compete at the collegiate level.

So how exactly did he do it?

Well, during this conversation, Nelson and I spoke about how he got into basketball, the first time he dunked, making the decision while in college to play professionally, how he dealt with the naysayers. moving to an entirely different country to chase his dreams, and what it was like to finally make it.

Nelly Chans unconventional path to achieving his dreams is proof that you can do anything you set your mind on. The real question you have to ask yourself is…. how bad do you want it and what are you willing to do get? Here’s to episode 14. Enjoy!

You can follow Nelson Chan on Instagram at www.instagram.com/NellyNelChan or check out his website at Hoopandlife.shop

Thank you for tuning in and don't forget to hit subscribe!Alicia Marahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17340660292962277433noreply@blogger.com0San Francisco, CA, USA37.7749295 -122.41941559.4646936151975787 -157.57566818220903 66.085165384802423 -87.263162817790985tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5439605813800999288.post-68914962705124310852020-09-24T15:42:00.003-07:002021-03-09T19:09:47.338-08:00Ep. 15 I (Barbershop Talk) Ft. He played for many baseball teams including the Los Angeles Dodgers, Texas Rangers, and New York Yankees.

Park Chan-ho was born on June 30, 1973 in Gonju, South Korea. During his school years, Park was already excelling in sports and earning MVP titles in multiple tournaments. In the early nineties, Park was part of the South Korean national baseball team and his performance helped the team win the silver medal at the Asian Baseball Championship in 1993. After enrolling in Hanyang University in Seoul, Park’s baseball talent was quickly noticed by the Los Angeles Dodgers who signed him on as an amateur free agent in 1994.

Park’s professional career as a baseball player officially began when he made his debut appearance with the Los Angeles Dodgers on April 8, 1994. He forged a remarkable record with the team until the early 2000s. In 2002, the Texas Rangers signed Park as a pitcher with a dazzling $65 million five-year contract. After several years and teams, Park found his way back to his original team and returned to the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2008. He eventually played for other teams including the Philadelphia Phillies, Pittsburg Pirates, and Orix Buffaloes. On November 30, 2012, Park announced his retirement from baseball and his record marks him as the most successful Asian-born pitcher in MLB history.

Although away from his homeland, Park never forgot his origins and always went back to play with his national team. In 1998, he joined the South Korean national team in the Asian Games and they won the gold medal. He also represented South Korea in the World Baseball Classic in 2005. Later in 2011, Park donated over $30k from his salary towards the development of amateur baseball in South Korea. Recently, he joined SparkLabs, a startup accelerator in South Korea, as a venture partner to support young entrepreneurs in various sectors.

Alicia Marahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17340660292962277433noreply@blogger.com0San Francisco, CA, USA37.7749295 -122.41941559.4646936151975787 -157.57566818220903 66.085165384802423 -87.263162817790985tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5439605813800999288.post-78766225793704035562020-08-27T16:04:00.005-07:002021-03-09T19:13:20.785-08:00Did You Know There Was A Food Show Featuring Two Asian American Hosts?

<div class="blog-item-content e-content" id="yui_3_17_2_1_1614124879980_109" style="background-color: #f4f4f3;
Today’s episode features an individual with an inspirational story.

His name is Tu David Phu and he’s a Vietnamese-American Chef based out of Oakland CA. He’s worked at many Michelin Star rated restaurants all around the US and was a contestant on Season 15 of the highly popular cooking show called 'Top Chef'. In 2017, Tu was named 'Rising Star Chef' by the San Francisco Chronicle, and in 2019, he was named as a 'Smart Catch Leader' by the James Beard Foundation for his use of promoting sustainable seafood options.

During this conversation, Tu and I talked about his rough childhood experience living in Oakland, CA. Tu goes into detail on how some nights he would go hungry, how he did not have access to fresh food (which a lot of us take for granted), the rollercoaster of a journey he went through to learn about his identity, what community means to him, how food saved his life and gave him purpose, and getting the call to appear on Top Chef.

As a bonus, we even got the chance to talk about an incident that occurred during Top Chef, which involved a fellow contestant sabotaging Tu’s dish.

The story behind his love for food is one that is so raw and organic that it’s hard not to root for the guy. I’m extremely grateful I was able to connect and have this conversation with Tu and I look forward to working with him in the near future.

You can follow Chef Tu David Phu on Instagram at instagram.com/cheftudavidphu or check out his website at www.ChefTu.com

Thank you for tuning in and don't forget to hit subscribe!Alicia Marahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17340660292962277433noreply@blogger.com0Oakland, CA, USA37.8043514 -122.27116399.4941155151975813 -157.42741658220902 66.114587284802425 -87.11491121779099tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5439605813800999288.post-6877742101071657642020-08-12T16:05:00.003-07:002021-03-09T19:14:43.581-08:00Larry Kwong: He Battled Racism, Made History By Becoming NHL’S First Asian Player<div class="blog-item-content e-content" id="yui_3_17_2_1_1614124885094_68" style="background-color: #f4f4f3; A 5’7” point guard, Misaka was renowned for being a defensive specialist with a high arcing hook shot.

Born in Ogden, Utah to Japanese immigrants, Misaka grew up in poverty with his two younger brothers, living out of the basement of his father’s barber shop. In an era of racism and discrimination, Misaka faced hardships from a young age, being excluded from extra-curricular activities at school based on his ethnicity. His father passed away when he was 15, leading him to work on a relative’s farm to support his family.

A gifted athlete, Misaka still participated in sports (basketball, football, baseball, and track) at Ogden High School despite his ethnicity, and led the basketball team to championships in 1940 and 1941. While many other Japanese were being forced into internment camps during World War 2, Misaka played basketball at Weber College, winning two championships and numerous awards including MVP and Athlete of the year.

He enrolled at the University of Utah in 1942, and successfully helped the Utes basketball team win the NCAA tournament over Dartmouth in overtime. On his return from the tournament, he was drafted into the US Army, where he served in Military Intelligence rising to the rank of Staff Sergeant. Returning to Utah after the war, Misaka’s team won the 1947 NIT basketball championship.

Misaka entered the BAA (Basketball Association of America – a precursor to the modern NBA) draft later that year, and was selected with the 61st pick in the 7th round by the New York Knicks. He played in 3 games, scoring seven points, before he was cut from the team. While his professional accomplishments were limited, his legacy remains as the first non-white player to be drafted in professional basketball.

After basketball, Misaka returned to University, and worked in Salt Lake City as an electrical engineer.

Alicia Marahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17340660292962277433noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5439605813800999288.post-89797149284245322942020-08-03T15:46:00.004-07:002021-03-09T19:19:20.226-08:00Ep. 11 I Taylor Rapp (NFL Player/Los Angeles Rams) - Making It Into The NFL As An Asian American
